"What an exciting time to be involved in football in Nottinghamshire! The County FA is delighted to have supported Nottingham's successful claims to be named as a candidate city for the nation's bid to host the 2018 World Cup. What has been achieved so far is a tribute to the dedication and diligence of a lot of people who have put in so much hard work.
It was while reading through the items in this edition of On Target that it made me even more aware and appreciative of the many other areas in which we support and develop the football scene throughout Nottinghamshire.
A lot of this was reflected at our awards night which proved such a huge success both as an event and in rewarding so many deserving people for their hard work throughout the season.
It is nice to reflect on AFC Vernon’s success in becoming only our 12th FA Charter Standard Community Club – which led to a link with Sven-Goran Eriksson (see page 7) – and to have observed the ever-growing number of courses we have delivered throughout 2009.
I am sure that we have chosen wisely in the new members of staff we have appointed over the last few months as featured elsewhere in this magazine, and look forward to them working closely alongside you in the near future.
May I wish you and your club all the very best for 2010 – and remember. We have gone to great lengths to spread The FA’s Respect programme around the local leagues. Let us fully embrace it and set our own example to some of the people whose actions continue, on far too many occasions, to still make the back pages. I know you can do it."
