NewsWollaton lift cup after penalties
Tuesday, 13 May 2008.
Wollaton Reserves made up for the disappointment of losing in the final last season, by clinching the Precision Training Notts Senior League Junior Cup at the expense of Basford United Reserves, after extra time and penalties.
Having achieved a league double over their opponents, Wollaton went into the game at Hucknall Town's ground as favourites, but fell behind on 18 minutes thanks to a goal from Fragola.
Wollaton battled back to equalise through Hind ten minutes before half time, before edging ahead 2-1 thanks to an effort from Peach on 62 minutes.
Basford not to be denied, however and immediately pulled level again through Manners.
Both periods of extra time saw Basford pushing for the winner, with Wollaton goalkeeper Elliott making some great saves.
With nothing between the sides, the game went to penalties, which Wollaton edged 3-2, therefore making up for the disappointment of last season in lifting the impressive trophy.
