BEACON CLOSE THE GAP IN NAA

1:50 PM, Monday, 08 February 10. News

While Notts Amateur Alliance Premier Division leaders Santos were making progress in the cup – beating Kirton Brickworks 2-0 - Aspley Beacon took full advantage to close the gap at the top of the table.

Aspley Beacon convincingly overcame the potentially tricky hurdle of fourth-placed Headstocks to register a 6-1 success and cut the deficit to three points with a game in hand.

Bottom-of-the-table Calverton MW showed plenty of spirit but eventually went down 2-1 to Kashmir, while Ashland Rovers won 3-2 at East Valley United.

In the day’s only other Premier Division fixture Trident surely eased any lingering fears of the drop by beating Gedling Southbank A 4-1.

Vernon Villa Reserves surprisingly dropped two points in Division One – but still top the table despite their 2-2 draw with Notts Metropolis. There was also a shock for high-flying Grey Goose, who slumped to a 4-1 home defeat against Bilborough Town Reserves. In the battle of the bottom two it was AFC Bridgford who were all smiles after inflicting a 3-0 defeat on Boots Athletic A.

In a key game at the top of Division Two, leaders Arnold Town A edged a thriller against Durham Ox 4-3, while second placed Netherfield Seniors crashed 4-1 at Sherwood Social.
