Clifton Villa won’t be repeating last season’s highlight and contesting the final of the Notts FA Sunday Senior Trophy as they crashed out 5-4 on penalties against AFC Teversal after an enthralling encounter.
Villa took a first half lead through TJ Nightingale, only to be pegged back within ten minutes by the visitors. There were no more goals in extra-time and Villa missed the vital first penalty in the shoot-out to fall in the cruellest way.
In the Premier Section Majestic Trophies KO Cup, Sims Metal progressed to the quarter finals at FC Digica as goals from Edwards, Johnson and Wood led them to a 3-1 success, whilst Tivey struck the consolation.
However, one of the favourites Trentside, stumbled to defeat at the hands of Chesterfield Arms. Tyrone Francis netted for Trentside and Carl Wilson replied. Again there were no more goals in extra-time and then Chesterfield triumphed 4-2 in the penalty shoot-out.
In the Premier Section, Plough Barflys demonstrated that they have overcome their early season problems as they went top of the Premier Division with a couple of goals from Marlow and one by Parkinson in the 3-2 win over lowly Radford Park Rangers, who had Campbell and Whitehead registering.
Arnold climbed to second with a 5-1 triumph at Rolls-Royce Leisure Athletic. Boulter gave the visitors the lead in the first half but it was countered by Bonsall with 20 minutes remaining. However, this galvanised Arnold more than the hosts and a further effort from Boulter, a couple from Johnson and a Boyd strike gave Arnold a more than generous scoreline.
Redhill put themselves three points above the ‘drop zone’ with a resounding 6-1 mauling of basement outfit; Nuthall.
Calverton Cherry Tree put clear daylight between themselves and the chasing pack at the head of Division One, but were made to battle by Half Moon before strikes by Austin and Williamson gave them an odd goal in three advantage, with Gorewoda replying.
Trowsers could only manage a 1-1 draw against visitors BTSC with Hughes netting for the home side and Brown equalising.
Bulwell Rangers are struggling to field a competitive team and fell 3-2 to guests Nottingham Alumni, whilst Cotgrave PFC maintained their challenge, as Smedley, with two and Smith helped them to a 3-1 win over Old Colonial, who had Smith on the scoresheet.
A goal from Oldham failed to lift Carlton Top Spot off the foot of the table, as his effort was overcome by a brace from Farrell in Stratford Haven’s 2-1 victory.
Crusader continue to look down on their rivals from their lofty position in Division Two as Hall and Pritchett each scored twice, supplemented by Kemp and Thomson’s efforts in the 6-3 triumph over Vernon Villa Sunday, who slipped from second to fourth.
Portland Arms HH go second thanks to goals from Critch and Lockwood in their 2-0 home win over Wolds, while Lenton Villa kept up the pressure with an entertaining 4-3 success over Rolls- Royce Leisure Villa Reserves. Patrick Neal hit a hat-trick and Edwards one for Villa with Wilson, Dowey and Dury bagging the consolations. Ashton and Wood were on target for Station Hotel, as they repelled goalless Nottingham Rangers.
Although Doughty and Wickings were on target, Bridgford Taverners ended their Notts FA Sunday Junior Cup run at the fourth round stage, as they became the last Notts Sunday League side to exit the competition, beaten 6-2 by a strong Rose & Crown.
There were two high scoring games in the Senior Section’s K Roberts/SportsGuard KO Cup outstanding third round ties. Beercalona advanced to round four with a 7-2 win over Grosvenor, thanks to Jordon Oldfield and Guled Samatars scoring three goals each, added to by Karsa, as Barker and Shardlow replied.
In the other encounter, Ross Lawrence hammered a hat trick, supported by one apiece from Foster, Sharp, Boothby as Eagle surprised ABP with a 6-2 triumph. Mozley and Hickman responded for the shell-shocked visitors.
Empire Hucknall went to the top of Senior Division One following a close 2-1 encounter with Robin Hood. Lindsay and Gorman scored for Empire, as Fountain responded.
Top Valley responded to going two goals in arrears by Wright and Hayes to triumph 3-2 over Premium, as Usher with two and Smithson one struck the late goals.
Pheasant Inn had a comfortable 5-1 win over Premiere Travel, with Briggs grabbing two, supported by one each for Rudge and the Miles brothers - Keiron and Craig - as there was a consolation for Chesterton.
The Masons marched to the head of Division Two by thumping Carlton Top Spot Reserves 6-1, with Jermaine Ward inflicting the main damage with a hat-trick, added to by Thomas, Jones and Allen, with Fox replying.
Strikes from Hickin, Myton, Hooton and Bromfield ensured that LA maintained their winning run with a thrilling 4-3 advantage at Aldercar, as Clay hit two and Hall one for the luckless hosts.
Chetan Petel’s three goals and one from Griffin helped AFC Nottingham United to a comfortable 4-0 win over Lion Revived, that closed the gap on leaders Loft in Space, who didn’t have a game.
Third placed AC Broxtowe proved too strong for Stratford Haven Reserves, thumping them 8-1 with Webster hitting a triple, Tatar two and Hastings, Rawluk and Collie one each, whilst Clarke struck the consolation.
Chappell netted twice and Taylor, Beardsley and Latif once as Edwalton Reserves got the better of Beeston Biz 5-2, with Sturman and Gadd responding, while Real Nottingham stole the points from Notts Elite by the odd goal in three, with Dalton and Kieghley striking for the hosts and Coupe for Elite.
