As part of the award 25 members of Sherwood FC were invited by The FA as VIP guests to the Community Shield match at Wembley between Chelsea and Manchester United.
Club Chairman Simon Buttenshaw was delighted with the recognition "The awards ceremony was dedicated to recognising the fantastic work put in by volunteers across the country who make such a difference to the lives of young footballers.
The FA really went out of their way to give all the guests a great day out. I felt privileged to be there in the midst of all the legends of the game at the home of football, and absolutely chuffed to go up onto the stage to receive the award from Lee Sharpe on behalf of Sherwood FC.
I hope other grassroots clubs in the county get to hear about this because although my club has done some great things over the last year, of course we're not alone in that respect - I'd like to think we're representative of all FA Charter Standard Clubs around the county doing such a good job with young players in their communities."
In order to select 25 lucky club member to go to Wembley the club ran a competition, each young player was asked to write something which started with 'I like playing for Sherwood because....' - by Simon's own admission he was amazed by the response and the imagination shown by some of the youngsters.
Owen Want was one of the lucky youngsters to be selected for the Wembley trip, you can see his entry on the right under related documents!
