Are yours up to date?
So you finally got persuaded to take on the role as the coach of your team. You got your Criminal Records Check (CRC) done before you started. You attended an FA Level 1 course, which included your Emergency First Aid (EFA) course and your Safeguarding Children’s Workshop (SCW)
But that was nearly 3 years ago.
If this is you, then there are a few things that you need to be aware of, so that ALL of your qualifications remain up to date.
This qualification doesn't expire. Once you have your Level 1, it stays on your FA Number (FAN) forever. You are a qualified coach.
This needs to be renewed every 3 years. It is really important that you don't let this expire, as anyone who does not have a valid CRC should not be coaching players under the age of 18. Your Club Welfare Officer should keep on top of who within your club needs to renew their CRC, but if you can, help them out and if you know yours is coming to an end, then make it happen.
EFA (now called iFAiF – Introduction to First Aid in Football)
Again this needs to be renewed every 3 years. We organise courses throughout the season, and there should be one near you. Be aware of when yours is due, and book on in plenty of time. You can see the list of available courses by clicking here. Keep yourself up to date, as you never know when you are going to need these potentially life-saving skills.
SCW (Safeguarding Children Workshop)
As the above, this also expires after 3 years. Previously you would need to have attended a face to face workshop, but you can now re-certify online. The course takes approximately 90 minutes to complete. It is a really great interactive resource, which is an important part of helping to keep your players safe. Another bonus of the online course is that it is free. You can access the course by clicking here. (You will need your FAN and password)
Keeping up to date is your responsibility. You can make this really easy for yourself by joining the FA Licensed Coaches Club, as you will be able to see when all of your qualifications expire, and you get an email when they are due.
