UEFA B Journey

Last weekend saw the second block of the UEFA B get underway, with it unfortunately being cut short due to the heavy snowy. However, the Saturday still proved to be a great success despite the cold!

We asked the candidates how they are finding the course so far, here are a few highlights:

“Having completed most of my coaching qualifications over in Australia, I was unsure if the UEFA B course would be similar or totally different to what I have studied and practiced in the past. From day one I was made to feel welcome and comfortable on the course by the coaches and other participants which felt great; I have really thrived of course allowing you to express your philosophy on how the great game should be played, and putting your thoughts into action through coaching and developing players." - Michael Leslie

“The knowledge & experience of the tutors and learners on this course allowed for some great discussions, with the technical & tactical detail provided by the tutors during practical and theory workshops being exactly what I was looking for. I can’t wait for block 3 and looking forward to getting back out on the grass and putting everything into practice.” - Jake Kemp

“The course as a whole has been extremely enjoyable and I have relished the challenge of expanding my knowledge through my individual project and exposure to the course. I think the individual project and new assessment system is a much better way of determining whether a coach is working at the level 3 standard. The support which we have received through theory sessions and in-situ visits has been excellent.

“There has been a wonderful mix of tutors who have a wealth of experience and expertise within the game. A key take home message was to ensure that the principles of play are ingrained into our practices and we coach using a logical order of progressions and coaching points. We were also treated to another Chris Dowhan coaching masterclass, his technical and tactical knowledge of the game is second to none and the intricate details which he is able to provide is outstanding. We are very fortunate to have Chris as a mentor on this course as his knowledge of the game and ability to create pictures is incredible.” - Ady Osborne

“First of all I would like to say what a super course the new UEFA B course is, the venue and facilities are exceptional, the tutors are excellent with years of experience and fabulous knowledge of the game. It's nice to listen to the other coaches on the course and discuss different challenges we all face.

“The in-situ visit from Chris Dowhan was really good and informative and explained other alternatives to think about as well, some great advice from one of the best coaches in the business. My journey so far on the course has been really positive and engaging and I have personally learned so much in a relatively short time. I'm already looking forward to the next block of sessions and to continue on my pathway of learning and to become a better coach.” - Nigel Thrower

We also asked Chris Dowhan on his thoughts of how the course was going so far “The group as a whole have been very receptive to the course content, and the delivery methods used both in the practical and classroom environment. The sharing of ideas amongst the cluster groups of which there are 3 groups of eight has been really productive and has been evident when the candidates have delivered their practical element. They have shown a real desire to create an excellent learning environment for all concerned.

“During the initial training programme the candidates will receive 3 in-situ visits ensuring the candidates are getting support in their own environment which is a massive plus both for the coach and also the players. Overall it’s fair to say they have been greeted very well and I have been so enthused with the attitude of the coaches on the course. Here’s to the next 2 blocks!”
