Applications now open to be an official SSE Wildcats Girls' Football Centre

You can inspire girls aged 5-11 to get involved in football.

The FA and SSE have launched an initiative designed to inspire girls aged between 5-11 to be involved in football. SSE Wildcats Girls Football Centres provide girls with regular opportunities to play football and take part in organised sessions in a fun and engaging environment. 200 centres were established in 2017 and a further 800 will be in place for 2018.

Following the successful pilot of SSE Wildcats Centres across the country during the 2016/17 season, the opportunity to apply to be part of the programme for the 2017/18 is now open – providing even more groups with a chance to grow girls’ football in their local area.

The application window opens on Friday 1st December and closes on Monday 8th January.

Sessions will commence from the week beginning Monday 9 April. A minimum if 16 weekly sessions are expected to be delivered; however as high demand to be part of these sessions is anticipated, we encourage all applicants to plan with an intention of extending these sessions as a continual offering of girls’ football.

Funding and equipment is provided; however applicants who can demonstrate some matching or ‘in-kind’ funding will be prioritised to ensure the investment goes into sustainable football opportunities.

The pilot phase saw grassroots clubs, educational institutes and professional club community trusts involved in the delivery of SSE Wildcats Centres. We welcome applications from groups in all of these categories in addition to those outside these groups – to ensure Wildcats Centres meet all community needs and provide greater opportunities for girls to play football.
