Selston FC are delighted with their state-of-the-art lighting system, which will give them better flexibility when it comes to scheduling training and fixtures.
Selston FC officially switched on their brand new floodlights for the first time recently (Wednesday 22 November), thanks to a grant from the Premier League, through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF) – the largest funders of non-league football in the country.
The funding has enabled the club to install the state-of-the-art new lighting system following their promotion to the East Midlands Counties League ahead of the 2017/18 season. The new floodlights have helped Selston FC’s ground to meet the Category H requirements of the FA National Ground Grading Criteria for their new Step 6 position.
Previously, the ground had no floodlights, meaning that the club was constrained when it came to scheduling matches and training. The new floodlights will provide the club with far greater flexibility in this, especially during the dark winter months.
The project was made possible by a £36,431 grant from the Premier League, which is delivered through the Football Foundation – the sister organisation of the Football Foundation.
Funded with £6.5m each year from the Premier League, the FSIF – the sister organisation of the Football Foundation – is the country’s largest provider of grants towards projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower league football grounds in both the professional and amateur game. These improvements range from new football stands and turnstiles to floodlighting and improved provision for disabled supporters.
Mark Wilson, Club Chairman, said: “I'm delighted to be able to open the new floodlights here at Selston FC. This has been a long time coming and will enable us to compete at a very good level. It will also enable us to offer the facility to host cup finals and play-offs etc. and widen the club's profile. This is the culmination of much hard work and complements all the hard work we have done elsewhere on the ground.
“I'd like to thank all our players, management, volunteers and committee members who all helped. I'd also like to put on record my sincere gratitude to Selston Parish Council both employees and councillors without whom we wouldn't have been able to progress as we have. My final thanks are to Nottinghamshire FA and the FSIF for backing us.”
Peter McCormick OBE, Chairman of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, said: “I am delighted that investment from the Premier League, through the FSIF, has helped Selston FC to install new floodlights. They now meet the necessary requirements following promotion, and will be able to benefit from more flexibility in scheduling.
“Through projects like this all over the country, the Football Stadia Improvement Fund is using the Premier League’s investment to improve facilities at all levels of the game.”
