UEFA U19 EUROS

The MU19s host a 2022 UEFA U19 EURO elite round group with Armenia, Portugal and Republic of Ireland as they bid to qualify for this summer’s finals in Slovakia.

That qualifying campaign will see Ian Foster’s age group host Armenia at Rotherham United on Saturday 26 March (2pm kick-off).

This is either side of a fixture against Republic of Ireland at Walsall on Wednesday 23 March (7.30pm kick-off) and Portugal on Tuesday 29 March (7.30pm kick-off) at a venue to be confirmed.

Only the group winners qualify for the U19 EURO finals, a tournament England has won once in its current guise in 2017.

Foster said: “It’s great that we have home advantage for this final phase of our qualifying campaign and even better that it allows us to take our Young Lions around the country.

“We’re looking forward to visiting Rotherham where the backing will be vital in helping to get us over the line to qualify for the U19 EURO finals in Slovakia this summer.

“It’s rare that football fans get to witness the next crop of young England stars in their region so we hope to see plenty of all ages come out to enjoy the unique experience of watching international football.”

Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart said: "We are immensely proud to once again be given the chance to stage an international fixture here in Rotherham.

"When we moved into the AESSEAL New York Stadium nearly 10 years ago, we did so with a vision of hosting fixtures like the one coming up, but to have staged the number of games that we have done across various age groups and in the Women's game in that time has been fantastic.

"Alongside the work that our own team are doing, fixtures of this ilk are really helping to put Rotherham on the map and it is brilliant to see people coming from across the country to see what we have to offer here.

"I am sure this game will be well-attended and will lead us nicely into a summer of football with the Women's EURO."
