Nottinghamshire CFA v Bedfordshire CFA
Nottinghamshire returned to Watnall Road, the home of Hucknall Town FC, for their match against Bedfordshire CFA.
With several changes to the side that turned out in our last match, Nottinghamshire were hoping for a much improved performance against a strong Bedfordshire side. From the outset Notts were in charge and took an early lead when Tom Batterham netted within the first two minutes.
After sustained pressure they doubled their lead with Joe Welsh scoring on the thirty minute mark. Bedfordshire had hardly been able to muster an effort on the Notts goal at this stage and were 3-0 down after half an hour.
Connor Wright scoring after a foul in the penalty area by the Bedfordshire keeper, which earned him a red card.
To their credit, Bedfordshire battled bravely in the second half despite being down to ten men. However, further goals from Tom Batterham on forty eight minutes and Louis Tomlinson on sixty five minutes saw Notts home to a comfortable 5-0 win.
Herefordshire CFA v Nottinghamshire CFA
Nottinghamshire FA representative squad managed to finally get our Midland Counties Youth Championship match, against Herefordshire CFA on 14th January. Unfortunately, due to illness and injuries, we had to travel down to the Westfield Ground in Hereford with a much changed squad. The boys soon found themselves falling behind and by half time were 3-0 down, to a lively Hereford side.
However, a much improved second half performance saw Notts bounce back to level at 3-3 and almost take the lead. Two late strikes put the game out of our reach though and the points went to Hereford by 5-3.
Birmingham CFA v Nottinghamshire CFA
The game against Birmingham CFA was played on the 10th February. Nottinghamshire FA traveled to the West Midlands with a vastly depleted squad, owing to the fact that it was played on a Saturday. A much stronger and more experienced Birmingham side completing, as expected, an easy victory.
The Notts boys never gave up and after a disastrous first half, rallied in the second half, to gain some pride from the outing.
The final score line being 9-2 in favour of the home side!
